WHY would any woman go thru having pro make up applied, have her hair styled and wear a dress that on a regular day is not practical? Yes, you could spend that day in jeans and a cute ponytail doing your daily thing.
WHY? because it will make you feel so powerful, you are creating a life-long memory, you will have images to add to your legacy, because this is you now…
My WHY have multiple reasons… I want a portrait that depicts who I am right now. It is not necessarily about appearance but more the raw, the beauty. I want a portrait of my soul. To show messy hair (which i totally love). I need to befriend the woman I am today. (When you find a photographer whose vision aligns with yours, do not hesitate to book a session).
I have been many faces, introverted only child, don’t give a darn student, woman in love dispelling all of the rules and common sense, yep!, dead-serious professional chasing degrees, anxiously happy but overspent mom. They all define who I am today. I do not remember how they all looked though, there was one image taken in ’83.
A PORTRAIT SESSION is a spiritual practice. It is s l o w i n g down, reflecting and getting grounded. It is self-acceptance and sometimes self-discovery. I want my daughters to celebrate who they are now. Every damn day. When there is love, there is far less fear. You genuinely smile.
I must put in the work, however, if I don’t how will I demonstrate this for my daughters? Create the NEW TRADITION for yourself. Every year on your birthday have your private session and if you have daughters this is a wonderful way build confidence in teens.
Take three hours, be self-centered, show up and get real. Leave your legacy, freeze this moment in your life.
I’ll talk about the other WHY in a later post.
